Description

UNO NINMATSU RARE JAPANESE POTTERY HEART SHAPE DISH, Tomobako, Signed, 1925-30.
Very fine quality multicolored dish in heart shaped leaf form, the whole covered with a transmutation glaze of various green and goldish shades, (
NOTE
: Due to the fact that there are subtle hints of blue in the glaze the photos seem to bring it out indicating more blue, but on viewing the piece in person the dark areas are actually a deeper green color), the veins in realistic natural relief, the reverse in buff with streaks of additional color.
DIMENSIONS
: Widest diameter 5.9 inches. Marked on the base in a circular impressed cartouche by the artist, together with the original tomobako wood storage box bearing the inscription “green glazed foliage shaped dish, and the go/artist signature “setunzanninmatsu” and bearing the red seal of the artist, late Taisho/earlyShowa Period.
CONDITION
: No evidence of chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration. Some kiln grit to the underside, and the tomobako box shows wear commensurate with it’s age. Pieces by this artist are quite rare to find, and usually are unsigned and only attributed. This makes this particula rdish unusual for this artist as it easily identifiable by his studio mark.
