ANTIQUE JAPANESE KATAGAMI PAPER KIMONO STENCIL ART

A hand cut Japanese katagami from Kyoto.
We believe this and the others we have listed were from the early 1900’s.
Made for placing a design on kimono cloth. This one is unusual in that it looks like it was made as an art piece. a traditional thatched home with birds.
They’re paper made from mulberry paper that was soaked in a persimmon tannin. The persimmon allows the paper to resist the dye or wax and allows the stencil to be used more than once.
It’s 35 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches (90 x 27 cm)
