This lovely white Kappogi smock is made of a Cotton/Polyester blend. It has lace around the collar in the front and elastic cuffs on the sleeves. It is a Japanese size Large (85cm). It is one of a large lot of vintage items that we have
acquired which were stock from a shop in Kyoto that sold kimono accessories.
Most were produced in Japan in the 1960’s or 1980’s, before such items were made in other Asian countries as they often are now. It is in perfect unworn condition in its original packaging.
Kappogi are a traditional type of apron that is normally worn to protect your kimono when doing chores. They are worn when serving food, cleaning etc. They come in many different designs and fabrics - some traditional and some western. Most tie at the back and have elastic in the sleeves.
