    Description

VERY RARE NEW YORK WITH A TWIST CHESS SET 1 OF ONLY 8 MADE! ARTIST PROOF #5 OF 8
This set is not only a great conversation piece with it's size (
    King 6 3/4")
and amazing detail but it is also playable. Signature is on the glass board along with it's number 5/8 AP. Thomas "Topo" Galati Signed Artist Proof "New York With a Twist" Chess Set & Glass Board. This extremely rare edition has the depiction of the Twin Towers as the castle pieces.
This set was manufactured BEFORE the 911 tragedy & in no way was designed to "cash-in" on the terrible tragedy.
The set comes in a fun heavy duty large wooden crate and comes with a mirrored, glass, etched, playing surface with the artist proof signature & piece number #5 of 8 hand etched into the glass and
    on lid
    of crate.
King=King Kong on the Empire State Building. Queen=Statue of Liberty. Bishop=Chrysler Building. Castle=Twin Towers. Knight=NYPD Horse. Pawn=Taxi's & NYPD Police Cars.
Note the many NY details even down to the Statue Of Liberty (Queens) each holding a hot dog with one side having a Mets ball cap and the other a Yankees ball cap.
An incredible set that only a few people will ever have the chance to own.
Found this information in regards to Artists Proof. "Today the value of owning an artist’s proof does not relate to quality, it relates to the importance of owning a rare portion of an edition. Because the art world loves rarity and since there are fewer artist’s proofs than regular prints, they are preferred by many collectors. Most often they will cost between 20% and 50% more than a signed and numbered print from the same edition."
    King 6 3/4" with base 2" x 1 3/4"
    Pawn 1 1/2" with base 2 1/2"x 2"
    Board 23" x 23" with squares 2 5/8"
Set is very heavy especially the glass board.
The resin pieces are hand painted then highlight with an airbrush & then finished to a high gloss.
Chessmen are in excellent condition and felted on bottom. Glass board has a chipped piece on bottom of one corner and round spacer/bumper has come off.
