Description
Sacred Ritual Set of Rowan Elder Futhark Norse Runes in a suede pouch with wolfe’s tooth closure.Handmade from a young Rowan tree, spring 2021.
About the Set:
According to the Eddas, the poetic saga of the Norse Gods, the Runic alphabet was a gift from Odin. The word 'rune' means 'wisper,' or 'secret wisdom'.
The Elder Futhark (Norse Runes) are a collection of 24 symbols divided into three families or aettr. They were inscribed on amulets for protection, luck in battle, etc. As the old Norse language had no future tense, these runes were not used for definitive future predictions, but could be consulted to understand trends based in the present (leaving the reader to extrapolate outward as appropriate). The 25th blank rune available in some sets is a modern invention not used by most students of the Runes.
About the material:
Runes with woodburned sigils and the blank 'wyrd' rune. This set of runes is cut from the same branch in order to assure continuity. The branches are tempered by the elements of fire, water, earth, air, and time. The bark is still on these beautiful Runes. Made from a pruning, and were taken in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust
About the Rowan properties:
Why Rowan is a Sacred tree for Runes? Also known as Mountain Ash, Witchwood and Sorb Apple has long known as an aid and protection against enchantment. Sticks of the Rowan were used to carve Runes on. Rowan spays and crosses were placed over cattle in pens and over homes for protection. Its lovely red berries feed the birds in winter. The berries have a tiny pentagram on them . The Rowan tree indicates protection and control of the senses from enchantment and beguiling. The Rowan was sacred to the Druids and the Goddess Brigit. It is a very magical tree used for wands, rods, amulets and spells. A forked Rowan branch can help find water. Wands are for knowledge, locating metal and general divination.
