    Description

    1800s Japan porcelain dish saucer with a central medallion and nice red green gold gilt birds and other decorations. Measures 1.2" tall by 5.2" in diameter. No foot to speak of, and no mark.
    The saucer is decorated at the center with an blue underglaze cruciform medallion, with the sides and edges brightly decorated in colors and gilt with three leaf shaped panels interspersed with three small birds and moths among flowers. (The panels are shaped like Paulownia tree leaves).
    Underneath there are 6 underglaze blue designs. Could have been made before the export trade took off in the late 1860s. This one has a purity not always shared with items produced only 20 or 30 years later.
