    Description

This item is intended only for those who can rekey locks. They are an alternative to Kwikset original double ended pins.
Kwikset's traditional original factory pins are made differently than most locks' standard pins because they are pointed on both ends, allowing someone rekeying the locks to put them in either end first.  The only problem is that it makes the lock easier to pick or bump.  By switching to the Lab .003" equivalent sizes of the Kwikset pins,  you get a pin that is crowned at the shear line, rather than severely beveled.  Since picking and bumping both rely upon catching pins at the shear line, the replacement pins potentially make the lock more secure.  This set includes 1 pack each (150 pins per pack) of Lab .003" professional locksmith pins in the equivalent sizes to Kwikset #1-6 bottom pins plus a pack of 100 spooled driver pins.  Many other brands also use Kwikset pin sizes including Yale Residential, EZ-Set, Faultless and many other import brands.
Personally, as someone who has been in the lock business for 30 years, both as a locksmith and a wholesale distributor, I consider the likelihood of a break-in by either picking or bumping to be a very minor risk, but it concerns many people.
Many homeowners these days worry about break-ins through several uncommon methods including picking and bumping.  While it's very unlikely that a burglar will ever use these methods, some people like the peace of mind that you can provide by simply replacing the driver pins with spooled drivers.  Because picking and bumping both rely on using torque, these drivers will cause the pins to stick, rather than ride up and down smoothly.  Schlage uses spooled drivers as standard on their Grade 1 rated B60 deadbolts to make the locks much more difficult to pick.
Note: these drivers will not replace drivers on locks with springs that wrap around the driver pin, such as Schlage F Series and Yale Residential locks.
