Japanese Oshie Kurumie Textile Art - Large Impressive.
Description
Extraordinary and remarkable framed Japanese Oshie art! Oshie is Japanese traditional craft with the history from the Edo period(1603-1867).  Oshie is a three-dimensional picture pasted together after wrapping cotton (or sponge) with cloth.  Since cotton is wrapped with cloth, it is also called the alias "Kurumie (wrapping picture)".
Multi layers of padded material and even pearl (or pearl like) making it life like. What is so impressive is that most of the little pieces of material are hand painted with incredible detail. The face, the details, even the wrinkles are vivid. The colorful art work is so crisp and clean.
Dimensions:
Frame - 23.5" Height x 19" Wide
Textile Art - 19" H x 10" at widest
This textile art is mounted directly on a two sided glass frame that has helped preserve this.  The frame is in good condition but will likely need to be opened to adhere the art to stand straight (adhesive to back has loosened).  There is a little wear (see picture 3 & 8) but it doesn't diminish the overall artistry.  The oshie is in a black frame with gold trim.
Acquired a few years ago from a frequent traveler (estate sale after he passed) to Japan in the 50's and 60's for business.  I've sold off a few from his collection over the last couple of months.  Believed to be early 20th century.
