Japanese Ise Katagami Edo Era Kimono Stencil Katazome
Item Description:
Japanese late Edo Period Pre 1880 Kimono stencil pattern "ISE KATAGAMI" for dying textiles Katazome. These stencils are made from the bark of the mulberry tree and then treated with the juice of the just ripened persimmons which make the paper strong and resistant to water. This beautiful Ise katagami come from the Ise area of in central Japan. They have no silk lining which means their designs have to be self-supporting.
