    Description

    Maker:
On the reverse of this exquisite gold encrusted antique plate is the word "Satsuma" written in red in Japanese hiragana lettering. The design and the quality of the porcelain suggest that it was made in Japan in the early part of the 20th century but that is not confirmed.
Production of this type of Satsuma china began in the early 19th century, originating in the province of Satsuma, Japan, and later spreading to other cities.
    Design
: The plate is classically designed and finely detailed. It features traditional Japanese figures and symbols against a porcelain background accented in superb gold moriage and white beading. Holding the plate at an angle reveals the full richness of the gold.
    Condition
: Despite its apparent age, the plate is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, repairs, crazing or wear.
    Size
    : It's 8 5/8 inches wide and weighs 11 ounces.
