, the delicate paper-cut stencils used to resist-dye fabric for kimono, are historically
characteristic of
Mie Prefecture. They
have been
designated one of the
Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Japan. They
are featured in collections of major art & craft museums around the world.
These make beautiful framed objects. As shown in the photo, they can be placed over a color background to accent or complement a specific decor.
This katagami stencil has especially light stencil work of small holes that could be dramatically highlighted with a contrasting color or backlighting.

Condition:
Excellent vintage condition with the exception of one small missing edge of paper at corner
Mesh backing intact on both stencils
Signs of light use visible from slightly lighter coloration around cut-out areas on side without mesh backing--adds to visual interest
