    Description

    This 1
2-inch charger is beautifully decorated with the Ho-Ho (also Hou-ou), the Japanese interpretation of the Phoenix bird. The mythical creature is portrayed with long wavy serrated plumes. This charger is well made and hefty (over 3 lbs). No marks, likely from the late 1800's-early 1900's. This blue and white charger/plate  with brown crimped pie-crust edges belong to the family of Japanese utilitarian dishes referred to as Izegara  (Igezara) transferware from the manner it is decorated.
